Earlier this year, we all heard about the Whatsapp privacy policy controversy. According to the new policy, Whatsapp would be sharing users' data with Facebook i.e. its parent company. Moreover, users' denying accepting the new policy will have to quit the popular text messaging app.
Now, Whatsapp has come up with an updated privacy policy which states that users can still use the services without accepting the new term and condition; however, they won't be able to access a few top features. The deadline to accept the new terms was Saturday, May 15.
Before this announcement, users were still not sure if they will continue using the Whatsapp services, as the earlier message from the company was more forceful to accept the policies.
On the other hand, Whatsapp and Facebook have already explained the new policies in detail. Due to the new ecommerce feature, Whatsapp is required to share the users' data with Facebook. More importantly, this will help the business account to work effectively. As per Whatsapp, all these changes will directly benefit the users. It says that only the chats between the business account and users will be shared by the parent company, Facebook.
In this explanation, users have doubts and believe that the new policy will leak their personal information, chat and messages for commercial use. The other thing that the users didn't like, is Whatsapp's statement on the new policy which says: either to accept the terms or quit the platform.
Accordingly, Whatsapp had pushed the deadline to May 15, 2021, with assurance of rechecking and examining the new policy terms.
Now, before the final deadline, Whatsapp has come up with a new approach. The new announcement assured that none have to leave the messaging app, but people who don't accept the new policy, will lose some important features. Though the statement looks nice and positive this time.
"No one will have their accounts deleted or lose functionality of WhatsApp on May 15 because of this update,"
Users with non acceptance of the new policy will no longer have access to their chat list. Besides, they can still access the incoming voice and video calls for sometime. They can even accept the policies after that to activate the full features.
Whatsapp says:
"After a few weeks of limited functionality, you won't be able to receive incoming calls or notifications, and WhatsApp will stop sending messages and calls to your phone,"
