The US government has reported charges against 5 cyber criminals supported by the Chinese States. Along with the 5 members, 2 Malaysian hackers are also included in the list. As per the investigation, these criminals have accessed around 100 companies worldwide.
The group named "APT41" has been continuing his mischief activities since 2012. They are not only responsible for strategic intelligence collection targeting companies of different sectors, but also conducted financial orientated attacks targeting online gaming platforms. The group is known as 'Barium,' 'Winnti, 'Wicked Panda,' and 'Wicked Spider'.
As disclosed in earlier reports, the cyber group, APT41 has been alleged in accessing companies' source codes, client's data, software code signing certificates and other sensitive information. Besides, the group has been presumed distributing the malicious versions of the software to affect the organizations.
The most impacted industry by these attacks includes social media agencies, gaming companies, NGOs, universities, software and hardware development companies.
Interestingly, three of the five Chinese hackers are connected with a network security company, named ''Chengdu 404 Network Technology''. Besides, the company is operated by the People's Republic of China.
The district court of DC, United States of America has issued an arrest warrant against all the culprits. In addition, the government ordered the officials to seize their accounts, domains, servers, etc.
Not all hackers are offenders. There are ethical hackers (with similar hacking skills) who use their knowledge and practices to find vulnerabilities in a system to prevent any cyber attacks.
