Recognizing the work and contribution in the field of forensic sciences, Dr J M Vyas the Vice-Chancellor of National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) was honoured with Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award in India.
Dr Vyas quoted "It was a subtle moment of great pride for the forensic science fraternity in Gujarat and across India. I feel humbled and deeply honoured. It has been a long journey and I am happy to be associated with some of the landmark institutions in the field of forensic sciences in India. I am really esteemed to receive this award."
Dr J M Vyas (M.Sc., PhD, LL.B.) being the Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat Forensic Sciences University in Gandhinagar was charged into this post in February 2009. Before that he has also served as the Director for Directorate of Forensic Science – Gujarat State. He is currently holding the additional charges of the same.
He was selected for the INTERPOL Forensic Science Symposium's Organizing Committee in 2010 and re-elected for the terms 2011 to 2013.
He was awarded the President's Police Medal for excellent services in the field of criminal investigation in the year 1997. He was also recognized as the Best Forensic Science Laboratory Director of the country and was awarded a Commendation Certificate by the Deputy Prime Minister at the 15th All India Forensic Science Conference in 2004.
Dr Vyas has been highly regarded with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award' in the area of Forensic Chemistry by Amity University & All India Institute of Medical Sciences – New Delhi, in October 2008.
Apart from being the Vice- Chancellor of National Forensic Science University, Dr. Vyas holds a large number of publications, in various journals of national & international repute and is a very well-known Forensic Expert of the Country.
